Taking Ownership: UNI's health plans, what's the difference?

UNI has two health plans, the UNI PPO (Alliance Select) and the UNI Blue Advantage (HMO). The UNI Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan provides coverage whether you are in-network or out-of-network, you pay more for services provided outside of the network. The network for this plan is nationwide and is available in over 200 countries. The UNI Blue Advantage is also known as a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). This plan provides coverage only in the state of Iowa.

2019 Benefits & Well-being Fair: In Good Health

Do something good for your health by attending the annual Benefits and Well-being Fair on Wednesday, October 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Maucker Union Ballroom. Numerous vendors representing university provided benefits, financial wellness, and well-being offerings. Opportunities for free blood pressure readings, vision and hearing screenings, massages, spinal screenings, acupuncture, and body composition testing. Flu vaccinations will be on site and provided to employees through UNI Employee Well-being.

Retirement Readiness: Paying Yourself - Income Options in Retirement

Human Resource Services will host two informational sessions on what your income options may be in retirement. Join us to learn the basic rules governing the most common retirement accounts, gain perspective on when to withdraw different assets, and discover the income choices TIAA offers. All faculty and staff are welcome to attend. The hour long sessions will be presented by TIAA: October 21 at 3 p.m. and October 22 at noon in the State College Room MAU. Please register in advance.

Retirement Readiness: Estate Planning Basics

Human Resource Services will host two informational sessions on the basics of estate planning. Join us to learn how estate planning affects retirement and strategies to maximize your benefits. All faculty and staff are welcome to attend. The hour long sessions will be presented by John Englin, Director of Financial Planning and Trust Services, Veridian Credit Union: October 7 at 3 p.m. in the State College Room MAU and October 8 at noon in the Presidential Room MAU.

Taking Ownership:Read Your Explanation of Benefits (EOB), it Can Save You Money

Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, our health insurance provider, will provide an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) each time a health or prescription claim is processed. Understanding your EOB is very important. The document tells you:

1. Your doctor’s appointment/service, or prescription, has been reviewed by Wellmark.

My Well-being: Confidential Biometric Screening

Human Resource Services will host a confidential biometric screening on September 20 from 7 to 9 a.m. in the Safety Training Room, located at 3219 Hudson Road. Retirement Readiness: Social Security 101

Learn how Social Security benefits affect retirement, strategies to maximize your benefits, and ideas to help you set up your retirement income. All faculty and staff are welcome to attend. My Well-being: Annual Flu Vaccinations

Each year, Employee Well-being provides free flu vaccinations for faculty and staff. The first clinic of the year is scheduled for September 25 in the Redeker Center Lounge from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Additional clinic times and dates can be found on our Flu Vaccination page. Plan ahead to protect yourself and others from the flu!
