Faculty Bargaining Unit Determination Rules

Use the following table, visual, and primary assignment rule to determine when a faculty assignment should be Faculty Unit (United Faculty bargaining unit) or Faculty Non-Unit.

When to Select Faculty or Faculty Non-Unit
  Faculty Faculty
Non-Unit
All Probationary, Tenured, Term, Renewable Term or Clinical Faculty with a 50% or greater FTE X  
Temporary (Adjunct) Faculty    
  Current assignment is less than 25% FTE   X
  Current assignment is 25% or greater FTE AND DID NOT have a 25% or greater FTE assignment in the prior academic semester or prior academic year   X
  Current assignment is 25% or greater FTE AND DID have a 25% or greater FTE assignment in the prior academic semester or prior academic year X

When More Than One Assignment

If a faculty member who is classified as Faculty has a primary assignment change to, or already has a primary assignment as, any of the following, they must be changed to Faculty Non-Unit:

  • Academic Administrator
  • Dean
  • Department Head (including interim appointments)
  • Lab Assistant
  • Instructional Assistant
  • Graduate Assistant
  • P&S
