Special Notes
- To protect the privacy of the employee, do not share this reason with others not approving the PAF.
- If Faculty, ideally the Effective Date is 01-Jun-XXXX or 31-Dec-XXX. The Last Day Worked should be three (3) business days after the end of each semester.
Definitions
Cancellation – Individual did not begin employment.
Deceased – Employee/Retiree passed away.
Discharged-Attendance – Discharge due to attendance history. Consult with hrs-employment@uni.edu prior to discharge.
Discharged-Gross Misconduct – Discharge for substantial neglect of duty, serious misconduct, or serious breach of university or Board of Regents policy. Consult with hrs-employment@uni.edu prior to discharge.
Discharged-Performance – Discharge for failure to meet work standards. Consult with hrs-employment@uni.edu prior to discharge.
Discharged – Discharge for other reasons. Consult with hrs-employment@uni.edu prior to discharge.
Early Retirement – Retirement by participation in a special retirement program offered by the university.
End Annual Appointment – Annual appointment not being renewed. Consultation with hrs-employment@uni.edu is required.
End Contract – Contract appointment completed as scheduled. This reason code to be used by Athletics only.
End Contract-Early – Contract appointment ended prior to scheduled appointment expiration date. Consult with hrs-employment@uni.edu prior to termination. This reason code to be used by Athletics only.
End Temp – Temporary assignment completed as scheduled.
End Temp-Early – Temporary appointment ended by the department prior to scheduled appointment expiration date. If employee in Temporary appointment resigns, use one of the Resign reasons.
End Temp-Max Hours – Termination of temporary appointment due to completion of 780 hours in one fiscal year. Use for Merit Temporary appointments in non-AFSCME covered classifications only.
End Temp-Max Length – Termination of temporary appointment due to meeting the Temporary appointment period limit. Use for non-Merit Temporary appointments and Merit Temporary appointments in AFSCME covered classifications only.
End Term – Term appointment completed; not extended or reappointed. Consult with hrs-employment@uni.edu prior to termination.
End Term-Early – Term appointment ended prior to scheduled appointment expiration date. Consult with hrs-employment@uni.edu prior to termination.
Layoff – End of employment due to workforce reduction. Consult with hrs-employment@uni.edu prior to layoff.
Layoff-Recall Status – End of employment due to workforce reduction. Recall rights apply. Consult with hrs-employment@uni.edu prior to layoff.
Other – Termination for reason not included in list of termination reasons. Consult with hrs-employment@uni.edu prior to using this reason code.
Resign – Resignation; specific reason not given or known.
Resign-Abandonment – Employee deemed to have resigned for failing to report to work for a designated period of time without proper notification and authorization (generally three consecutive work days). Consult with hrs-employment@uni.edu prior to taking this action.
Resign-Dissatisfied – Resignation due to dissatisfaction with position or policies.
Resign-In Lieu of Discharge – Employee resigned after being notified of adverse finding that could result in termination.
Resign-Not in Good Standing – Resignation with less than ten days notice unless a shorter period was agreed to. Consult with hrs-employment@uni.edu prior to using this reason code.
Resign-Other Employment – Resignation to accept employment elsewhere.
Resign-Other Reason – Resignation for reason not included in list of resignation reasons.
Resign-Other University – Resignation to take a position with another university.
Resign-Regents Inst – Resignation to take a position with another Regents institution.
Resign-Relocation – Resignation to relocate.
Resign-Return to School – Resignation to return to school.
Resign-State Agency – Resignation to work for a non-Regents state agency in Iowa.
Retirement – Normal retirement (not a special early retirement program).
Tenure Denial – Faculty member denied tenure; employment ended based on lack of tenure.
