Staff Search Process: Document Evaluation of Candidates

Overview

Even if you have another interview waiting, you should take a few minutes to record your impressions of the applicant while they are still fresh in your mind. There is no need to make any definitive decisions at this point, but recording your impressions will help you immeasurably if the final choice comes down to several applicants with comparable qualifications.

Document the applicant's ability to perform the essential functions of the job and what, if any, reasonable accommodations may need to be made. Do not make notes concerning personal appearance or perceived disabilities. Criteria for your notes should be job-related and consistently recorded for each applicant interviewed. If you have questions regarding what to document, contact Human Resource Services for guidance. If you are using an interview analysis/evaluation form, you should also complete a form for each applicant following their interview.
