Many of these services are free and are provided by both UNI benefit vendors and different agencies in the Cedar Valley. UNI’s insurance plans cover free in-network preventive care services for you and your family. This includes annual physicals, OB-GYN exams, twice annual dental preventive exams, and an annual eye exam. UNI’s Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) can be used for many expenses that are not covered by health insurance. This would include office visit copays, coinsurance, and deductibles owed for services.

UnityPoint and MercyOne hospitals and clinics have online systems that allow patients to contact their care teams virtually. Through these platforms you are also able to request prescription refills, access test results, and read provider notes. Doctor on Demand, UNI’s option for a virtual office visit, allows 24/7 care for common symptoms. Utilizing these services lowers the risk of exposure and illness.
UNI has two health plans available for eligible employees, the UNI PPO (Alliance Select) and the UNI Blue Advantage (HMO). The UNI PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plan provides coverage whether you are in-network or out-of-network, but you pay more for services provided outside of the network. The network for this plan is nationwide and is available in over 200 countries. The UNI Blue Advantage is known as a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). This plan provides coverage only in the state of Iowa. Claims would only be covered outside of Iowa if Doctor on Demand was used, or the claim was considered an accidental injury or an emergency as determined by Wellmark.
