EAP Services

What EAP Is...

EAP provides up to six sessions of short-term counseling and referral for employees and their families when they are experiencing life challenges. Family members covered is anyone living in the household, and also includes college age adult children who may be living away at school during the school year. Life challenges include crisis, death, marital trouble, divorce, family problems, financial problems, and work-related stress. Six sessions are available for counseling per issue per year.

In-person and virtual counseling appointments provided by external counselors contracted with Employee and Family Resources. Additional services such as legal assistance, financial counseling, childcare resource and referral, and life coaching are available in a limited capacity. The program is administered by Employee and Family Resources®. Contact anytime, anywhere.

What EAP is Not...

EAP is not a substitute for medical treatment. For emergency situations you should go to the ER or call 911. In the event of a medical health concern (infection, chronic health condition including mental health) visit a health care provider, urgent care, or telemedicine (Doctor On Demand). If counseling is needed related to the life challenge, this is still available through EAP, but should be secondary to medical treatment.

How do I use it?

Call 800-327-4692 whenever you are experiencing a life challenge.

What can I expect when I call?

The 800-327-4692 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is ALWAYS answered by a masters-level clinician. Your immediate concerns will be addressed as best the call center is able. The clinician will assist with scheduling short-term, in-person, counseling appointments. They will also assist with referral to other assistance depending on the situation and reason for the call. You should expect to have an idea of when you will receive counseling sessions, or when someone will follow-up with you when you complete the call. When you call, you will never receive a voice message or answering system.

How soon will I meet with someone in-person?

You should not expect emergency in-person care or immediate scheduling of an appointment that day with a counselor. For emergency situations you should go to the ER or call 911. Appointments are scheduled as soon as they are available, but you may need to wait a week or two before you are meeting with a counselor in-person. EAP will try to assist in scheduling appointments as soon as possible. However, local counselor schedules availability determine how soon you may meet with a counselor in-person.

EAP is Confidential

This service is fully confidential and protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. UNI has contracted with Employee and Family Resources® to administer our Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
