2019 Healthy Weight @UNI, Weight loss support for a healthier you

WW (formerly Weight Watchers)

WW at Work - employee testimonial

"I did the biometric screening the end of April. From when we started, I have dropped in Triglycerides and cholesterol. My BMI dropped out of the obese category and by 4 points. My body fat percentage had dropped 3% and I lost 5 inches off my waist. This was one of the main reasons I wanted to lose weight....to get those numbers better! I also have not had to use any asthma meds this year while biking."

Why a nutrition based weight loss program?

The program encourages movement and being active, however, the primary focus is on managing what you are eating, with an emphasis on eating nutritious foods as a part of a healthy lifestyle.

Who should participate?

This weight loss program was designed to assist employees in meeting their health goals.

If your health care provider has recommended you lose weight to improve your health, then this program is for you!

Some of the benefits you may experience include:

  • increased energy and stamina
  • lifelong tools to maintain a healthy lifestyle
  • tools to maintain weight loss
  • support from other participants and colleagues

With as little as 10 pounds of weight loss you may also experience:

  • lower blood pressure
  • decreased risk of diabetes
  • decreased risk of heart disease
  • decreased risk of stroke
  • decreased risk of some cancers
  • reduced risk of osteoarthritis
  • reduction of body/joint pain

What this program is…

This program is being offered to non-temporary employees, with an appointment of nine months or longer and working 20 hours or more per week. We are offering WW at Work. UNI Employee Well-being will pay for an annual WW membership fee for 50 participants. Participants must actively participate in the programs from start to finish. Employees with the greatest chance of their health benefiting from these programs will be given first priority. Any employee identified as participating in an unhealthy manner, or whose health would not benefit from weight loss, will not be allowed to participate.

Participants chosen for the Healthy Weight program will be enrolled in to WW at Work.

What this program is not…

This program is NOT a weight loss competition or a "biggest loser" program. This program is only to support employees that medically need to lose weight and to provide resources for them to lose weight in a healthy manner.

This is NOT about being one body shape and size. We are each uniquely beautiful the way we are. This program does not focus on appearance or body image, but rather being healthy and improving our health related numbers (e.g., blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.).

WW at Work

The WW program is a lifestyle modification program. According to a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, WW participants achieved at least 2.6% greater weight loss than those assigned to control/education. This program offers the convenience of on-campus in-person meetings with colleagues. WW also offers a electronic self-paced application. Both options can be balanced at your comfort level.
