Retirement Readiness: Bridging the Gap: Healthcare in Retirement Before 65

Human Resource Services will host an informational session on bridging the gap from your employer health plan to Medicare. Learn how to use the Marketplace or healthcare.gov to price Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliant plans, and options such as COBRA, short term health plans, sharing programs and group plans. The hour-long session will be presented by Todd Cooper with Veridian, March 1 at noon in Gilchrist 009.

Human Resource Services will host an informational session on retiree health care options in retirement. Join us to learn about Medicare basics, supplemental plans, MedicareBlue Rx Plans (Part D), and Medicare Advantage Plans. All faculty and staff are welcome to attend. The hour-long session will be presented by Cory Tilson from Wellmark, February 6 at 10 a.m. in Gilchrist 009. Please register in advance.

UnityPoint and MercyOne hospitals and clinics have online systems that allow patients to contact their care teams virtually. Through these platforms you are also able to request prescription refills, access test results, and read provider notes. Doctor on Demand, UNI’s option for a virtual office visit, allows 24/7 care for common symptoms.

Taking Ownership: Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Deadline for 2022 Contributions

March 15, 2023, is the last day to experience claims for your 2022 Flexible Spending Account (FSA). Make sure all claims are submitted to ASI Flex by March 31, 2023 as unused balances will be forfeited. You may use the convenient ASI Flex app or upload claims through ASIFlex.com.

Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Delta Dental and Principal Financial provide discounts for hearing devices and exams to our employees. Employees and their dependents have access to discounts through Blue365 and their health insurance enrollment as well as discounts with Amplifon through Delta Dental. Principal Financial offers discounts through American Hearing Benefits, Inc. (AHB) for employees, their dependents and other qualified family members.

Human Resource Services will host two informational sessions on retiring from UNI, for faculty and staff planning to retire soon or in the foreseeable future. Participants will learn guidelines and benefits available at retirement from UNI. The hour-long sessions will be presented by Therese Callaghan, Employee Well-being Coordinator, on January 5 at 10 a.m and 2 p.m. in Gilchrist 007. Please register in advance.

Own Your Benefits: 2023 Annual Open Enrollment: Going on Now!

The 2023 Annual Benefits Open Enrollment period is going on now and will run through November 30, 2022. During this time you may learn what is new for 2023, as well as review and change your benefit elections. Any changes made to your benefit elections will be effective January 1, 2023. No action is needed if you do not wish to make changes to health, dental, vision, or VTL. However, employees wishing to contribute to a Flex Spending Account (FSA) must enroll or re-enroll each year.

2022 Best Place for Working Parents

Their assessment concluded that UNI has family-friendly policies and practices in place that display a commitment of supporting working parents. Taking Ownership: The Difference Between UNI's PPO Health Plan and UNI's HMO Health Plan

UNI has two health plans available for eligible employees, the UNI PPO (Alliance Select) and the UNI Blue Advantage (HMO). The UNI PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plan provides coverage whether you are in-network or out-of-network, but you pay more for services provided outside of the network. The network for this plan is nationwide and is available in over 200 countries. The UNI Blue Advantage is known as a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). This plan provides coverage only in the state of Iowa.
