Own Your Benefits: UNI's Health Insurance Plans, What's the Difference?

UNI provides two self-insured health plans, the UNI PPO (Alliance Select) and the UNI Blue Advantage (HMO). The UNI Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan provides coverage whether you are in-network or out-of-network, you pay more for services provided outside of the network. The network for this plan is nationwide and is available in over 200 countries. The UNI Blue Advantage is also known as a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). This plan provides coverage only in the state of Iowa. Coverage would only be available outside of Iowa if Doctor on Demand was used, or the claim was considered accidental injury or an emergency. Own Your Benefits: When Can You Make Changes to Your Benefits?

Experiencing a qualified life event such as marriage, or birth of a child, allows you to make changes to your benefits. If you do not have a qualified life event during the year you may make changes annually during Open Enrollment, which occurs each year in the fall. Any changes made during the open enrollment period will be effective January 1, 2021. Human Resource Services will announce information regarding Open Enrollment through our benefits webpage, HRS Latest News, Inside UNI, UNI email, and home mailings. Own Your Benefits: UNI's Health Insurance Covers Your Preventive Eye Exam

UNI’s self-insured health plans, the UNI PPO (Alliance Select) and the UNI Blue Advantage (HMO) both cover one preventive eye exam per calendar year for anyone that is covered on the health plans. When going to an in-network optometrist or ophthalmologist, be sure to provide them your Wellmark ID to have your exam paid for. For other vision options, visit our webpage.

Dependent care costs can change at any time for a number of different reasons. It may be because you are newly enrolling your dependent in care, or withdrawing them from care. Due to these changes you are able to make changes to the contributions to your dependent care flexible spending account (DCFSA). Own Your Benefits: The Costs of Healthcare Visits, You Can Know Before You Go

Wellmark®, UNI’s health insurance vendor, offers tools to help members determine the cost of an appointment prior to visiting the doctor’s office. The tools are called the Wellmark Care Finder and Cost Estimator Tool located within the MyWellmark system. These tools will show you what your out-of-pocket cost will be for different types of services and appointments. Keep in mind that services done within the state of Iowa cost the self-insured plans less than when services are provided outside of the state. Wellmark has several tools designed to help you make informed decisions when it comes to UNI’s self-insured health plans. Wellmark provides the MyWellmark platform to bring many paper documents to your desktop, smartphones and tablets. Within MyWellmark you will find the option to elect electronic Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), the Wellmark CareFinder, and the Check Drug Cost Tool. Mail Service Prescription Drugs can be utilized to save both you and the plan money.

Own Your Benefits: Doctor On Demand - A Virtual Office Visit

To reduce traffic for healthcare facilities and to reduce you and family members exposure, use Doctor On Demand. Temporarily, due to COVID-19, the copay for utilizing Doctor on Demand will be waived for medical treatment. For Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations related to symptoms and treatment for COVID-19, visit the CDC web page. Doctor On Demand also provides behavioral assistance for anxiety, depression, trauma, and loss by covering visits with a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist.
