Taking Ownership: Coming Soon, New Wellmark ID Cards

You will soon receive a new Wellmark ID card in the mail. Your new ID card includes your new Wellmark ID number, so it’s important to put it in your wallet and destroy any old ID cards with an effective date before January 1, 2019. If you use an old card, your benefits may not apply correctly and the payment of your claims could be delayed or possibly denied. Always show your doctor’s office or pharmacy the most up-to-date card. To ensure you are using the most recent card, look for the print date shown in the lower left corner on the front of your card. For family plans, those on the UNI PPO will receive two cards. For families on the Blue Advantage, each person who is covered on the plan will have a card in their name. You may log into your MyWellmark account to request additional cards, if needed.

Taking Ownership: Virtual Doctor - Doctor On Demand

Irritating sniffles, coughing, sore throats, and fevers can be time consuming when a doctor’s visit is needed. Utilizing Doctor On Demand can save you time for these common symptoms. Doctor On Demand is a virtual office visit that can be used as an alternative to waiting at urgent care or a visit to your physician’s office for common illnesses. This service saves you time, costs you the same co-pay that you would owe when going to urgent care or your physician’s office, and saves the University money on our self-insured health plans. Examples of common illnesses would be skin irritations, pink eye, UTIs, cold, and flu. For more information visit our Doctor on Demand website.

Taking Ownership: The Difference Between UNI's PPO Health Plan and UNI's HMO Health Plan

UNI has two health plans available for eligible employees, the UNI PPO (Alliance Select) and the UNI Blue Advantage (HMO). The UNI PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plan provides coverage whether you are in-network or out-of-network, but you pay more for services provided outside of the network. The network for this plan is nationwide and is available in over 200 countries. The UNI Blue Advantage is also known as a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). This plan provides coverage only in the state of Iowa. Claims would only be covered outside of Iowa if Doctor on Demand could be used, or the claim was considered an accidental injury or an emergency. For more similarities and differences, review UNI's Health Plan Comparison.
