Financial Wellness

Time for a Mid-year Checkup

Did you start the year with some financial wellness goals? Perhaps you wanted to reduce debt or start an emergency savings fund. A lot has changed since January 1, 2021. This is a great time to review where you are at, where you want to be, and set a plan on how to get there. While you are reviewing your finances, are you on track for saving for your retirement? If you don’t know, you may want to set-up a time to meet with a financial advisor and discuss your goals both short and long term, and how retirement planning fits into this.

You can schedule a no cost consultation with a TIAA Advisor through the online scheduler. UNI also offers ways to save additional money for retirement through a tax-deferred annuity (TDA). Learn more by visiting our TDA webpage.

My Well-being

Summer Pro Tips

With schools out, vacations planned, and hot weather in the forecast, there are planning tips that can help you enjoy those summer days ahead.

  • Sun Protection. Remember to regularly apply sunscreen, wear UV protective sunglasses, hats, and sun shirts, etc. It’s important to use sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays. This will not only help prevent sun burns but also prevent skin damage and skin cancers.

  • Water. Water. Water. Carry water bottles with you and be sure to drink plenty of water all day long. Eating hydrating foods like fruits (e.g. watermelon) can also keep you hydrated and help replenish lost electrolytes.

  • Avoid bites. Mosquitoes, ticks, and other critters can carry diseases. Avoid bites by wearing bug spray, dressing for activities (e.g. hats when hiking), and checking clothes and hair after activities.

  • Treat cuts. Outdoor weather and work can lead to minor scrapes and abrasions. Be sure to clean and cover wounds with bandages. Keep first aid supplies on-hand in bags, vehicles, etc. Check with healthcare providers as needed.

Be sure to SWAT when you are out and about and stay well all summer long!

Health Care Flex Spending Account (FSA) Pro Tip: Did you know that you can use health care FSA funds to cover the cost of sunscreens and first aid supplies? Check out our FSA webpage and the FSA store to learn more.
