Got Free WW? In November, we announced ALL benefit-eligible employees are now eligible to sign-up for Free WW. If you haven’t had a chance to sign-up yet, there are some great tools that you are missing out on. But don’t worry, you can sign-up and get started anytime! One great feature is WW digital. You can track all your food, drinks, and activity and so much more. You can also connect to fitness workouts, boost your mindset with five minute audio coachings and meditation, connect with a WW coach (live or asynchronous), connect with a virtual workshop, find countless recipes and meal ideas (no pun intended), join food and fitness challenges, and connect with other members that are new just like you.
WW Feature HighlightThe following resources are for employees participating in WW. To receive UNI announcements and updates related to Free WW please subscribe by emailing employeewellbeing@uni.edu. “WalkTalks” is a part of Digital360. This is where you can listen and learn from a professional over a podcast, and at the same time, you’re guided through your walk based on how much time you have. The guide will provide you with a warmup, pacesetter, and cool down too.
Have 30 minutes? Check out the podcast with Dr. Sanjay Gupta: Build a Better, Happier, Healthier Brain. If you haven’t yet, here is a summary before you listen in while enjoying a brisk walk and gaining BDNF. What is BDNF? It stands for Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor. It is a protein in the brain that promotes the survival of nerve cells that play a role in growth, maturation, and cell maintenance. As Dr. Gupta simply puts it, you want more BDNF, and the only way to get it is to move!
The great part is that it doesn’t matter where, when, or how you move. Only that you do it and continue to do more of it. He also discusses that we are in control of our brain health and can work to improve our brain health even as we age. It doesn't have to be downhill from here! One way to do this is by constantly learning and creating new pathways in your brain. Want to learn more and gain BDNF? Put in some buds, cue up the podcast, get to stepping, and keep that brain healthy.
