FAQ: What is a TDA?

TDA stands for Tax-Deferred Annuity. It is a type of voluntary retirement savings account that is offered by UNI for all employees to be able to save additional money for retirement. This account is separate from your traditional retirement accounts, TIAA or IPERS. You can choose to save in a pre-tax TDA, which allows you to reduce your taxable income now, but you will pay taxes later when you retire. The vendors options for the pre-tax TDA are: TIAA, VALIC, Fidelity, Ameriprise, and GALIC.

You can also choose to save in an after-tax Roth TDA through TIAA. With a ROTH account you pay the taxes now, so the funds are then tax-free when you withdraw in retirement. The IRS maximum amount for either a pre-tax TDA or after-tax Roth for 2020 is $19,500. If you are over age 50, you can contribute an additional $6,500. You can enroll, or change contribution amounts through Benefits Self-Service. The amounts are then deducted from your monthly paycheck. For additional information visit our webpage.

FAQ: I understand Retirement Readiness sessions are for those that are 5 - 10 years from retirement. How can I ensure I am ready to retire in 20 - 30 years?

Attend upcoming Financial Wellness sessions! These sessions are designed to help employees of all ages to gain financial knowledge to help obtain and maintain financial security. Check out our upcoming sessions and view all of our upcoming events.

March is Workplace Eye Wellness Month

All UNI health insurance plans cover one preventive eye exam each calendar year. This is one benefit that often goes unused by those who do not wear prescription eyeglasses or contacts. Yet this exam can be important for a number of reasons beyond vision changes and vision correction. Did you know there are over 20 health conditions that can be caught at your annual eye exam?

If you don’t have an eye doctor you see regularly, you can utilize Wellmark’s find a doctor tool. To learn more about your health plan coverage, visit our website. Be sure to receive your eye exam this year and make 2020 your year for clear vision and good health.

Where Should You go to the Doctor?

Urgent Care, doctor’s offices, virtual doctors, and the emergency room, so many choices for care! Do you often wonder what the differences are among the options and where you should go? Did you know that members on our health plans significantly over utilize the emergency room for non-emergency situations compared to the Wellmark Book of Business? By utilizing each facility correctly you can save yourself, and the self-insured health plan money. Learn more about your health care options on the Health Care Choices For Services web page.
