Enjoy some fun in the sun safely this summer!
After what felt like the longest March ever, summer is finally here! While enjoying the great outdoors and soaking up some much needed sunshine, it is important to remember to apply sunscreen and to protect our skin and eyes from the sun. Frequent exposure to high levels of UV rays can lead to sunburns, premature aging, and skin cancers.
The CDC recommends wearing a sunscreen of SPF 15 or greater and applying frequently. While in water you may need to apply more often, and at least once per hour. Sunglasses and hats are also helpful to provide shade and eye protection from the UV rays. Water shirts and clothing are also available that can provide up to SPF 50 protection to our skin in and out of water, and can especially be helpful for children and individuals with sensitive skin.
While frequent sunscreen use is important, the cost can add up! There are ways to save. Did you know that sunscreen is an eligible expense under your Healthcare Flex Spending? To learn more visit the HRS Benefits Flex Spending Webpage.

The Costs of Healthcare Visits, You Can Know Before You Go
Wellmark®, UNI’s health insurance vendor, offers tools to help members determine the cost of an appointment prior to visiting the doctor’s office. The tools are called the Wellmark Care Finder and Cost Estimator Tool located within the MyWellmark system. These tools will show you what your out-of-pocket cost will be for different types of services and appointments. Keep in mind that services done within the state of Iowa cost the self-insured plans less than when services are provided outside of the state. The Care Finder tool also provides ratings and reviews on providers when you complete a search. Visit our Know Before You Go webpage to help you select your care.

We are thankful for the service of all of UNI's retirees! With their consent we are able to celebrate their years of service and share their information with the entire campus community.
